Commentary: The Swamp Goes All In Against Judge Roy Moore in Alabama GOP Senate Runoff Election

by ConservativeHQ.com Staff

The independent polls show Judge Roy Moore with a strong, and holding, 7-point lead over appointed establishment Republican Senator Luther Strange in Alabama’s upcoming Republican primary runoff.

The depth of the panic sparked by the idea of a Roy Moore victory has driven Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and his lowlife political operatives to new levels of gutter politics by claiming the Judge Moore opposes the border wall when the opposite is true.

The Senate Leadership Fund (SLF), a super PAC backed by McConnell, is supporting Judge Roy Moore’s opponent Luther Strange in the GOP runoff election set to take place next Tuesday.

Here’s the script of the phony ad:

MALE VOICE: “Who will fight with President Trump to change Washington? Not career politician Roy Moore. He’s on the wrong side of Trump’s border wall.”

VIDEO CLIP OF MOORE: “I’ll tell you a little secret. Does it take a wall?”

VIDEO CLIP OF MOORE: “I don’t think it would take a wall.”

REPEATS THE SAME CLIP OF MOORE: “I don’t think it would take a wall.”

MALE VOICE: “Roy Moore. Dead wrong on President Trump’s wall to protect our borders.”

AUDIO CLIP OF MOORE: “You can’t build a wall around our country.”

According to the critique of the TV spot by Politifact’s Jon Greenberg, “individual elements” were true, but “the package deal paints an incomplete picture.”

Greenberg’s article goes on to offer the full context of Moore’s remarks, then makes the ruling that the advertisement is “mostly false.”

Yes, Every Kid

“The ad contains an element of truth but ignores critical facts the would give a different impression,” Greenberg wrote. “We rate it Mostly False.”

But Politifact is not the only organization to callout McConnell and his bagmen at the Senate Leadership Fund for using lies and deception to smear Judge Moore.

After the Senate Leadership Fund was caught splicing together videos from two separate events in an out of context manner—in other words deceptively editing videos—to make it appear as though Judge Moore does not support President Donald Trump’s planned border wall our friend Becky Gerritson, the president of the Wetumpka Tea Party in Wetumpka, Alabama, called out McConnell and Luther Strange for the ad.

“Big Luther has only been in the Senate for a few months,” Gerritson said. “Yet, I am still astounded at how quickly he fell under the spell of Mitch McConnell and the establishment leadership. The fact that Luther Strange has not denounced these attack ads shows that he has fully embodied the Swamp mentality. If this is how he acts when he’s trying to win our votes then I shudder to think how he will act if he is elected.”

Part of Mrs. Gerritson’s outrage stems from the fact that one of the out of context quotes was taken from an event sponsored by the Wetumka Tea Party. Said Becky Gerritson:

We detest being lied to by politicians. That’s part of the reason they have such horrendous approval ratings. The SLF’s latest attack ad tries to make Alabama voters believe that Judge Roy Moore is against border security and President Trump’s border wall. What a joke!

I am the founder and President of the Wetumpka TEA Party, the largest and most active TEA Party in the state of Alabama. Over 300 people attended our July 31st Senate Candidate Forum. Never once did Judge Roy Moore state directly or even allude to not wanting to secure our borders. In their attack ad they use one line that Moore said at our event, “I don’t think it would take a wall.” However, it was taken out of context. In his complete answer he states two times that he supports a border wall and he also expounds on other ways to prevent illegal aliens from entering our country unlawfully. It’s obvious that neither the SLF nor Sen. Strange care about the truth. Luther is losing in the polls so the DC Swamp has nothing left to do but create lies and fear in order to try to turn voters to their side. Well, guess what Mitch and Luther…we’re not buying it!

You’d think after being caught red-handed the Senate Leadership Fund would pull the ads or at least Strange would disavow them, at least perfunctorily, but McConnell is so desperate that’s not what’s happening.

Instead, reports Breitbart’s Matthew Boyle, the group has tripled down with two more false attack ads this week that repeat the same lies as the last ones—and Strange and his campaign continue to refuse to stand up for President Trump and his agenda and the truth.

As CHQ Chairman Richard A. Viguerie said in his endorsement of Judge Roy Moore, “he’s the real deal; a Bible-believing Christian who lives the values he espouses and who has shown time and again that he can’t be bought or intimidated into abandoning his limited government constitutional conservative principles.”

We urge all our friends and CHQ readers in Alabama to vote for Roy Moore in the September 26 runoff election. If you don’t live in Alabama you can still “send them a message” by contributing to Judge Roy Moore’s campaign through this link.
